Johor Tigers win Indian Open Polo Chamionship

New Delhi, Nov 12 (UNI) Johor Tigers defeated Jindal Steel and Power 12-11 in a nail biting final to win the Reid and Taylor Indian Open Polo Championship here today.

Santiago Estrada of Johor Tigers, who put in seven goals for the team, was adjudged the Jack Daniel's Most Valuable Player, while Agility ridden by Angad Kalan was declared the best polo pony award.

However, the day belonged to Samir Suhag of Jindal Steel and Power (JSP) who was the highest scorer of the game, with 10 goals of the total 11 scored by his team.

The neck and neck game, which could have gone either way, provided many thrilling moments to the cheering spectators.

Six goal scorer, Argentine Martin Ravina opened the account for Johor Tigers with a 30 yard undefended penalty shot while Samir Suhag made the first goal for JSP also with the successful conversion of a 30 yard undefended penalty shot.

Close on its heels came another superb goal by Samir Suhag. Not to be outdone, Santiago Estrada, playing for Johor Tigers, made a quick goal for the team, thus drawing the teams at two goals a piece at the end of the chukkar.

In the second chukkar, Samir Suhag put in a spot hit taking JSP in the lead. In the final seconds of the chukkar Martin Ravina scored the equaliser with a successfully taken 30 yard undefended penalty shot. The chukkar ended with the teams tied at three all.

Barely had the fourth chukkar begun, when Samir Suhag scored on a 40-yard penalty shot, leveling the score. The chukkar ended on a tie once again at eight all.

In the dying seconds of the game, with five seconds to go Santigo Estrada scored the winning goal for the Johor Tigers.
