New Delhi, Nov 12 (UNI) Distance education pioneer IGNOU is to create a data base of graduate and post-graduate students passing out from Indian universities.

The data base will be used to launch various value-added and tailormade courses aimed at the job market, IGNOU Vice-Chancellor Prof. V N Rajasekharan Pillai said today.

A final shape will be given to the programme at a meeting of the regional chiefs of the university today and tomorrow. The large pool of 1,500 coordinators of IGNOU study centres and its 40,000 counsellors will be utilised to prepare the data base, Prof. Pillai told a delegation of vice-chancellors from Saudi Arabian universities visited IGNOU.

The data base will help IGNOU launch courses which provide employment to the Indian youth or make them successful entrepreneurs, he added.

According to him, the university will play a major role in formulating a National Mission on Distance Education.
