New Delhi, Nov 12 (UNI) In a major swoop, the Delhi Police has arrested six persons involved in melting coins for extracting metal for making artificial jewellery, and one factory owner for making spurious audio and video cassettes.
In the first case, following a tip-off, the police yesterday raided a melting unit in Siraspur village under Samaypur Badli police station area of North-West Delhi, where coins of various denominations were being melted to extract metal, police said today.
Six persons, who were working at the unit were arrested and seizures worth nearly Rs 25 lakh were made.
However, the police admitted that the main accused was absconding.
The coins which were being melted were in the denomination of 25 paise, 50 paise and Re one and were stacked in eleven gunny bags -- each weighing 50 kilogram.
In another incident, police seized Rs 30 crore worth of spurious CDs, VCDs and inlay cards from a factory in Naraina Industrial Area in South-West Delhi.
The 49-year-old factory owner of the unit -- 'Time-n-Tune' was arrested , police added.
