Guwahati, Nov 12 (UNI) After defeating the ruling Congress in the recent Jamunamukh Assembly constituency bypolls, the Asom United Democratic Front (AUDF) is all set to defeat them in the forthcoming Panchayat polls.
AUDF president Badaruddin Ajmal and working president Hafiz Rashid Ahmed Choudhury told newspersons here today that Congress despite its efforts were not able to defeat AUDF.
The seat fell vacant when Ajmal, who had won from two seats in the Assembly election, vacated Jamunamukh to retain the West Bilasipara seat.AUDF at present has about 11 members in the state Assembly.
Mr Ajmal alleged that the Congress had been using money and muscle power during elections and also was misusing the state machinery to win the seat.
Mr Choudhury said he had filed about 32 complaints with the Election Commission against the ruling party.
Terming the victory as people's verdict against the policies and corrupt practices of the Congress, they said while most of the opposition parties extended support to the AUDF candidate, a large number of Congress leaders also contributed to the defeat of their own party.
They also said the party would remain in the opposition and work together with the secular and democratic parties in the state.
They along with other parties have decided to field a single common candidate for each seat during the Panchayat polls scheduled to be held in January next year, party sources said.
