Mumbai, Nov 12 (UNI) Six pavement-dwellers, including three women, a minor boy and a girl, were killed after being run over by a car which was driven by a youth, allegedly in an intoxicated state.
Eight others were seriously injured in the accident which occurred in the early hours today in Bandra here.
Khar Police, which is investigating the matter, said the car rammed into a tin shed in which the pavement-dwellers were sleeping.
The bar turned turtle after ramming into the shed around 0400 hours.
Among the injured were six men, a boy and a girl who have been admitted to the Bhabha Hospital here, The car was being driven by Alistair Pereira and, prima facie, it appears he was in an inebriated condition, police said.
There were five other occupants in the car besides Pereira and all of them, too, were allegedly in an intoxicated state, police said. The other five have been identified as Crai Pereira, Kenroy Jacob, Curt D'Lima, Marvin Pinto and Ronela Tantamay.
Meanwhile, all the six were produced before a local holiday court which remanded Alistair Pereira in police custody till November 14, while the rest secured bail on a personal bond of Rs 5,000 each.
