SP workers burn Mayawati in effigy
Varanasi, Nov 11 (UNI) Irked by the yesterday's statements of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati, the ruling Samajwadi Party workers and Muslims here today burnt the BSP president in effigy.
The SP leaders, led by Santosh Yadav and Rajesh Sonkar, took to the streets against Ms Mayawati's statements over the voting behaviour of Muslims in the recent local body polls in the state.
They later set afire the effigy of the BSP president and were joined in the protest by Muslims leaders like Shakil Ahmad at the Girjaghar crossing.
The BSP chief had yesterday said that Muslims voted in favour of extremists, which had immediately drawn ire of the minority community at several places in the state.
However, later, Ms Mayawati tried to clarify that she had made the remark not in general but in respect to the local body polls in Meerut.
