Veteran Equestrian Champion Mariba Shetty of the Commadant of Mounted Company here became very sad following death of the 29-year- old horse which was once the best police horse in the country.
'Silver King' the white horse that was famed rider, the Commandant himself which had taken part in the Dasara procession and torchlight parade for 18 consecutive years, breathed his last here after aling for some time.
The gallant horse, had retired from service five years ago. It was the practice in Police department to either subject the retired animal to mercy killing or send it to Pinjarapole, however, in case of 'Silver King' considering its valuable and distinguished service for many years Mariba Shetty had successfully requested the higher authorities to keep his ward in the stable itself untill its end.

'Silver King' was five years old when it was acquired through tender from a trader of Delhi in 1982 it had earned fame as the best police horse in the country. It had secured the Sitamau silver trophy at the all India equsterian championships conducted at Hyderabad for three consecutive years from 1992. Any team winning the trophy for three years running need not return it. That trophy was donated by the then Royal family of Sitamau. A princely state on the border of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. As the organisers had requested for return of the trophy because it was not quite possible to make its like again. I returned the trophy. It was a very courageous horse and it had displayed its exemplary courage. Silver King was buried on the premises of mounted police with full honours.
