New Delhi, Nov 11 (UNI) The Supreme Court has severely pulled up the Tamil Nadu government for dealing with its orders and directives in a cavalier fashion.

A Bench comprising Chief Justice Y K Sabharwal, Justice C K Thakker and Justice R V Rveendran yesterday observed that there was total lack of communication on part of the Tamil Nadu government on the issue of state of affairs of slaughterhouses in the state which were in a total mess and were creating environmental hazards due to hopeless hygienic conditions.

The court noted with dismay that the government affidavit was totally silent on the nine suggestions put forth by the experts' committee for improving the hygienic conditions in the abattoirs in the state.

The court said, ''Be that as it may , we permit further the time of three weeks to the state to file a proper affidavit regarding the implementation of all the nine suggestions which are acceptable to the court.'' The directions came on a PIL filed by the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). The counsel for the petitioner earlier told the court that out of 33 abattoirs in the state only 2 had veterinary doctors and in many slaughterhouses class-IV employees are certifying that the animals to be butchered were fit for human consumption.
