New Delhi, Nov 11 (UNI) Former Union Minister and newly-elected BJP Lok Sabha member from Bhagalpur Syed Shahnawaz Hussain was today accorded an enthusiastic welcome on his arrival at the party headquarters here from Patna.
Mr Hussain, accompanied by his wife Renu and two sons, was received by BJP Vice-President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and party spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad.
As enthusiastic workers set off few fireworks to express their happiness over the victory of the party's first MP from the minority Muslim community in the Hindu-dominated constituency, Mr Hussain said his victory was possible only because of the Hindu-Muslim unity.
Mr Hussain will also meet BJP President Rajnath Singh to express his gratitude.
Talking to newspersons, the Lok Sabha member attributed his victory to the support of people from all sections of society in a constituency torn by a polarised atmosphere.
Mr Hussain claimed his victory has shattered Railway Minister Lalu Prasad's 15 years of rule which was replete with promises bereft of action. ''The Minister's attempt to woo Muslim votes by ''forging'' a 'Fatwa' did not work on the ground and the voters were unmoved,'' he charged.
He said his electoral success has showed that there was perfect understanding between the BJP and its alliance partner Janata Dal (United) and ''it is NDA's victory over UPA and Lalu Prasad''.
Mr Prasad and Mr Naqvi said Uttar Pradesh would be the next target where the BJP's Bhagalpur tsunami wave would seek to seize the control of power.
