Shimla, Nov 11 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh unit of the BJP today accused Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh of misleading people by announcing up-gradation of primary into middle and middle into secondary schools in the state.
The new education system in the state had already been defined with classes up to eight being termed primary education, while classes between nine and twelth being named secondary education, party spokesman Rajiv Bindal said in a release here.
He said the CM was misleading the people by announcing up-gradation of schools since all the primary schools had to be upgraded to secondary schools under the universalisation of education and Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan.
A sum of Rs 900 crore was sanctioned for the state in 2003 by the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for the next five years under the SSA, he said.
Mr Bindal said the state government was misleading people on the issue and should apologise for the inordinate delay in announcing their up-gradation, which should have been completed an year ago.
The appointment of teachers under Para teachers, on contract and Parent Teachers Association (PTA) by the government was a way to provide employment to people close to the Congress party, he added.
