Tiruchirapalli, Nov 10: Tamil Nadu Inspector General of Police (Intelligence) A Subramanian today said there was no intrusion of Al Qaeda terrorists or any other insurgent outfits into the state.

Talking to newspersons at the airport here after taking stock of the heightened security arrangements inside the airport complex following receipt of an anonymous letter threatening that Al Qaeda would carry out car bombings at airports in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Mr subramanian said.

''We are one hundred per cent sure that there was no infiltration of Al Qaeda terrorists or any other terrorist outfits into the state,'' Mr Subramanian said, adding that there was no threat to the airports in Tamil Nadu, as the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel were fully equipped to face any eventuality.

Stating that all the airports in Tamil Nadu were safe and secure, he said, ''We have drawn out contingency plans on the security aspect of each and every airport in the state, apart from the vital installations like Kalpakkam Atomic Power Plant.'' Asked about the anomymous letter about the bomb threat, he said it was the handiwork of a miscreant. ''We are suspecting one or two people in this regard and the Tamil handwriting in that letter was scientifically examined by the security personnel.'' Replying to a question, he said there was no involvement of terrorists or any other outfits in the bomb threat letter.

The state police was ready to give any help to the CISF personnel, who were manning the airports. The police was taking charge of the security around the airport and in case of any emergency, ''we will give our full support to the CISF,'' he added.

Mr Subramanian said in the wake of bomb threat letter, he had personally supervised and inspected the security arrangements in Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore and Tiruchirapalli airports.

Meanwhile, sleuths of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) carried out anti-sabotage checks for the third day today.

An unprecedented security cover was thrown over the airport and a strict watch was being kept on all vehicles, particularly cars entering the airport.
