Woman among two arrested with 3.5 kg smack

Hoshiarpur, Oct 29 (UNI) Police nabbed a woman along with an accomplice with 3.5 Kg smack worth Rs four crore in the international market, which they had bought from Delhi to supply in Hoshiarpur and Jalandhar districts.

The woman Devo and Mohinder Pal of Bhungarni village out on bail in a narco-related case, were trying to flee on seeing a police party when the team led by Tarlochan Singh Manhas, DSP (R), nabbed them on the bridge of a canal near their village. During their search police seized the smack.

Superintendent of Police S K Kalia, told media persons that an FIR under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of NDPS Act had been registered at Mehtiana Police Station against both. During interrogation they revealed that they had purchased the contraband from Suresh, resident of Shahadra (New Delhi) and had reached here. They used to supply smack in Hoshiarpur and Jalandhar districts.

Mohinder Pal who belonged to Kaithal district of Haryana, had settled with his in-laws in village Bhungarni about 12 years ago and was engaged in smuggling of the contraband. Three cases under NDPS Act had already been registered against him.

The SP further said seven cases under NDPS Act had already been registered against Devo while her husband Darshan Singh was serving ten-year jail term. Her son Jindi, daughter Kamlesh and nephew Mohan were also in prison at Ludhiana jail for smack smuggling.

Both Mohinder Pal and Devo were out on bail. More disclosures about the smack smuggling racket were expected from their further interrogation, the SP said.
