Lucknow, Oct 29 (UNI) Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Rashid Alvi today demanded imposition of President's rule in Uttar Pradesh in view of the deteriorating law and order situation and ''violation of constitutional norms'' by the Mulayam Singh Yadav government.

Talking to mediapersons here, Mr Alvi said criminals in nexus with the ruling party are targeting the opposition leaders particularly of the Congress.

Referring to an attack on his convoy in Bijnour on October 23, the MP said it was clear cut political conspiracy hatched by the ruling party to single him out as a ''Muslim'' associated with the Congress.

'' I will soon meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to impress them to progumulate Article 356 in UP for breach of constitutional norms,'' he said.

The Congress leader, coordinator of the party's Meerut and Saharanpur, alleged that the attack on his convoy clearly proves that criminals are running a parallel government in the state and they are not afraid of the consequences.''I could have been killed in the attack if my security were not alert,'' he further claimed.

Commenting on the ongoing urban local bodies elections in the state, Mr Alvi said Congress candidates will certainly sprang a surprise. He further claimed that out of the total 12 Nagar Nigams, at least 6 will be wrested by the Congress.
