London, Oct 29 (Reuters) Following are some of the major events to have occurred on October 30 since 1900: 1918 - The Slovaks agreed to a union with the Czechs under the name of Czechoslovakia.

1918 - Turkey signed an armistice which ended its participation in World War One.

1922 - In Italy, King Victor Emmanuel summoned the Fascist Benito Mussolini from Milan and asked him to form a government.

1938 - Millions of Americans panicked when the radio play of the H G Wells book ''The War of the Worlds'' was broadcast by Orson Welles. Many believed a Martian invasion of Earth was actually taking place.

1974 - Muhammad Ali accomplished one of the most remarkable comebacks in boxing when, at 32, he knocked out George Foreman to regain the world heavyweight boxing title.

1990 - Engineers constructing the Channel Tunnel between France and England linked up under the seabed, establishing the first dry link between Britain and the continent of Europe since the Ice Age.

1995 - Voters in Canada's Quebec province voted by a narrow margin in a referendum to remain part of Canada.

1996 - A South African judge jailed the former state assassin Eugene de Kock for more than 200 years, describing him as a chilling and revolting agent for apartheid.

2000 - A Spanish Supreme Court judge, his bodyguard and his driver were killed and 66 people were injured in a car bomb attack in Madrid blamed on the Basque separatist group ETA.

2001 - The United States, widening its offensive against terrorism, released a new list of some 200 individuals it suspected of having links to the September 11 attacks.

2002 - Juan Antonio Bardem, veteran Spanish film director who wrote and directed ''Death of a Cyclist'' and ''That Happy Pair'', died. He was 80.

2003 - An army of 13,000 firefighters struggled to contain the worst wildfires in California in years. Twenty people died and thousands of homes were destroyed.

2003 - Italy's highest court cleared seven-times Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti of charges he had ordered the Mafia murder of a journalist in 1979.

2004 - Osama bin Laden issued his first videotaped message in more than a year to deride U.S. President George W Bush and warn of possible new Sept. 11-style attacks.
