Pro-people strategy paying well in Kashmir: Governor
Jalandhar, Oct 29 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Governor Lt Gen (Retd) S K Sinha today said the ''pro-people'' policies of the state government have positively changed the mindset of the people.
The insurgency in the state could be fought only with the active participation of the people, Gen Sinha said while talking to reporters here.
He said that the noticeable shift in the people's mindset against terrorists was evident from the fact that over 5000 people had participated in the annual function organised in Baramulla on October 27 to counter militants propaganda against Indian Armed forces and their role in the state.
The Governor said that this was a significant development and showed how effective the ''pro-people'' policy of the government has proved.
Asked about the Ghulam Nabi government's approach of ''healing touch'', Gen Sinha declined a direct comment but added that it should be provided to the victims of terrorism not to the perpetrators.
The Governor was in the town to participate in a Hind Samachar Group Shaheed Parivar Fund function here today.
He said that interactive programmes to increase people's participation in the ongoing anti-insurgency campaign were being organised in the strife-torn state.
However, the government was firm in its commitment to deal with the menace and maintain peace, he said.
