Chennai, Oct 29 (UNI) More rain has been forecast for flood-ravaged Tamil Nadu with the formation of a depression over west-central bay off south Andhra coast.

According to the Met office here, yesterday's well-marked low pressure had intensified into a depression and was laying 50 km east off Nellore at 0830 hrs today.

Under its influence, rain or thundershowers were likely to occur at many places over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Isolated heavy rain was also likely to occur over Tamil Nadu during the next 48 hours.

In Chennai city, the weather would be generally cloudy with a few spells of rain or thundershowers, the Met office said.

Meanwhile, seven people have died in different rain-related incidents in the city since yesterday. With this, the toll in rain-related mishaps had risen to 26 in Tamil Nadu ever since the onset of North East Monsoon on October 20.

In a respite to rain-battered Chennai, bright sunshine welcomed residents this morning though heavy rain lashed the city till late last night.

However, several low-lying residential areas like Vyasarpadi, Madipakkam, Valasarawalkam, Kolathur and Perungudi continued to be inundated. In some areas, clogged drains resulted in water stagnation on streets and water entered homes making life miserable for the residents.

While Nungambakkam recorded 188.8 mm of rainfall during the last 24 hours ending at 0830 hrs today, Meenambakkam recorded 94.5 mm, followed by Tambaram 44.6 mm.
