Mankad: Railways beat UP, Rajputs vanquish MP

Indore, Oct 29 (UNI) An unbeaten knock of 52 by Arun Rawat, aided by Irfan Ahmed (42), helped the Railways beat Uttar Pradesh by 17 runs in an under-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy one-day central league match here today and gain 4 points while in another encounter Rajasthan defeated hosts Madhya Pradesh by 41 runs and also earned 4 points.

After electing to bat, the Railwaymen scored 194/9 in the allotted 50 overs. Both Rawat and Ahmed added a crucial 84 for the 8th-wicket partnership after the team score was 86/7.

Abhishek Tiwari scalped 4 batsmen while Bhuvneshwar Singh claimed 2 wickets for Uttar Pradesh. Gourav Goel and Mohammed Khalid took a wicket each.

In reply, Uttar Pradesh were bowled out at 177 in 47.3 overs.

Eklavya Dwivedi scored 44 while Subodh Shrivastava contributed 39. I Ahmed took 3 wickets while a wicket each was claimed by Gaurav Tiwari, Arun Rawat, P Singh and Sanjay Pandey.

In the other match, the Rajputs scored 255/9 aided by Manish Sharma (78) and Sumit Khatri (39 not out). Mayank Jagdale took 5 wickets for the hosts while a wicket each was claimed by Ankit Sharma, Asif Ali and Rohan Shrivastava.

The hosts could manage only 214/9. Openers Madhav Saxena (63) and Manoj Singh (37) tried to lay a solid foundation but later no other batsman could face the Rajasthan attack. S Khatri took 5 wickets while Gajendra Singh took 2 and Mohammed Ahmed scalped 1.
