Depression crosses Andhra coast

Chennai, Oct 29 (UNI) Tamil Nadu is set to receive more rainfall as the depression lying 50 km East of Nellore in south coastal Andhra is likely to move in a northerly direction and cross Andhra coast between Bapatla and Kakinada by tonight.

According to the Met Office here, yesterday's low pressure area over southwest Bay of Tamil Nadu coast had intensified into a depression.

Under its influence, widespread rainfall with heavy to very heavy falls at a few places was likely over north Tamil Nadu and coastal Andhra Pradesh during next 24 hrs.

Squally winds with speed reaching 50-60 kmph were also likely along and off Andhra Pradesh and north Tamil Nadu coasts during next 24 hrs.

The sea condition would be rough to very rough along and off Andhra Pradesh and north Tamil Nadu coasts. The fishermen in these area were advised not to venture into sea.

Chennai had recorded 19 cm of rainfall during the last 24 hours.

It was followed by Cuddalore 11 cm, Puduchery nine cm and Nagapattinam seven cm.

Scattered heavy to very heavy rainfalls are likely over north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the next 48 hours.
