Delhi's Connaught Place to have wireless internet (Wi-Fi) by January
New Delhi, Oct 29 (UNI) Come January and Connaught Place, the commercial hub of Delhi, will have wireless internet (Wi Fi) facility, a significant step in the direction of introducing e-Governance in the capital.
The introduction of free Wi-Fi internet services in Connaught Place is a part of Delhi government's plans to make the capital Wi-Fi enables, Delhi Information secretary G Narendra Kumar said at a three-day 'South Asia e-Government Summit', which concluded last evening.
''Apart from providing normal internet services, the Wi-Fi technology, meaning wireless fidelity, will also help the local business grow. This will also help in offering access to information about business establishments of the area, hotels, restaurants, education, healthcare and jobs,''Mr Kumar said.
The broadband internet facility is being developed and implemented with the help of three private sector IT companies, he said.
''After gauging the succes of the technology in Connaught Place, ot will be introduced in major areas of Delhi including Delhi Haat, Greater Kailash, Nehru Place and other places of business and tourist attraction,'' Mr Kumar said.
