Hyderabad, Oct 29 (UNI) The state Congress today accused the CPI(M) for its ''double stand'' on the issue of agitating for allotment of lands for displaced persons whose land was acquired for public purpose in the state.

Talking to newspersons here, party Chief Whip N Kirankumar Reddy and Whips S Udaya Bhanu and D Sridhar Babu alleged that the CPI(M) was not resorting to agitation for the same in West Bengal.

They said the West Bengal government had issued a GO empowering the government to take over lands and issue compensation at its will.

Releasing an open letter to CPI(M) State Secretary and Politburo Member B V Raghavulu, who had been heading the movement, the Congress leaders said the West Bengal Cabinet had amended the land acquisition policy of 1991 in its meeting on February 14 and issued GO No 1701-3M-07/06 on June 6, 2006, arming itself with powers to even take over lands with standing crops.

They alleged that while the CPI(M) was demanding the state government not to acquire fertile lands, the CPI(M) led West Bengal government had acquired most fertile lands in West Bengal.
