Cop held on extortion charges, suspended
Ahmedabad, Oct 29 (UNI) Police constable Laxman Tadvi, who was attached to the Sabarmati jail here and was arrested yesterday for allegedly extorting money from a city share-broker, has been suspended, today according to release here.
Tadvi was arrested along with two others -- Dharmendra Singh Rajput alias Guddu and Ramesh Singh Zala, by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) yesterday for allegedly demanding Rs 20 lakh from Mahendra Amrutlal Shah. The share broker had informed the ATS following which a trap was laid and the three arrested.
The two were allegedly operating at the instance of Akhilesh Tiwari who is presently lodged in the Sabarmati Jail and is a member of the infamous Fazloo Rahman Gang. On October 18, Tiwari had allegedly sent a message to Mr Shah to pay up Rs 20 lakh or face dire consequences.
