AMU, Kashmir University join Kurukshetra, Punjab Varsity in semis

Aligarh, Oct 29 (UNI) Captain Amir Anwar led from the front with an allround effort as Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) spanked Punjab Deemed Engineering University by 205 runs to sail into the semifinals of the North Zone Inter-Varsity Cricket Tournament here today.

Amir was in sparkling form hitting an unbeaten 70, which powered the hosts to 301.

Defending the total, Amir shone with the ball as well, returning a five-wicket haul to destroy the visitors as the Chandigarh side was skittled out for a paltry 96 in just 28 overs.

In another semifinal, Kashmir university, Srinagar thumped Punjab Agricultural University by 116 runs.

Batting first, the Kashmir side put on 194 with Tanveer Hussain hitting an impressive 58. Chasing a victory target of 195, the Ludhiana boys were bundled out for just 78 as Sukhmeet ran through their middle order.

In the semifinals tomorrow, AMU meet Kashmir University, while Kurukshetra University clash with Panjab University, Chandigarh.
