Thrissur, Oct 28 (UNI) Hundreds of Democratic Indira Congress (Karunakaran) rebel workers, including former Ministers and MLAs today returned to the Congress party, after leaving veteran leader K Karunakaran and his party.

The rebel leaders returned to the party after a resolution was adopted supporting Congress President Sonia Gandhi. The resolution was moved by former MLA D Sugathan.

Pradesh Congress President Ramesh Chennithala, Opposition Leader Oommen Chandy, Union Minister Vayalar Ravi among others welcomed the workers who returned to the Congress after 16 months.

Welcoming the leaders, M Chennithala said more workers would soon join the Congress in the coming days. These leaders had taken the right decision and they would be given due respect and consideration, he added.

He also alleged that the new Left Democratic Front government in the state was trying to topple the development projects of the previous United Democratic Front government.

He said that LDF was having only ''anti minority stand'' and asked the people to extend their support to the Congress to fight against such policies.
