Mysore, Oct 19 (UNI) The Karnataka Government proposes to implement a programme, enabling poor families unable to manage two square meals a day to earn at least Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said today.

Inaugurating the Bhavans Institute of Management on the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan premises here, he said the programme would help to increase their economic standard and lead a peaceful life.

Stating that the gap between the rich and the poor had been widening in the country, he said people talk about increasing the GDP to eleven per cent, but poverty had been increasing day by day, with 70 per cent of the population living below the poverty line.

Mr Kumaraswamy sought the cooperation of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan to spread the messages of moral values and humanity in the society.

He released a book on Dr Mathoor Krishna Murthy on the occasion and honoured him.

Later, the Chief Minister took part in an Iftar party, organised by various organisations in the city. He also received applications from the public and took decision on the spot in some cases.
