New Delhi, Sep 4 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today led the nation in mourning the death of former Bihar Chief Minister S N Sinha, who passed away in Patna this morning.
In a condolence message, Dr Singh described him as a leader of great stature and said the late leader had left behind an enduring legacy of public service.
The Prime Minister said Mr Sinha was a respected leader of the people who had a remarkable personality.He said the departed leader's contributions as an organiser and able administrator would be long remembered by the people of Bihar as his efficiency and effectiveness as Chief Minister helped provide good administration in the state.
In Patna, Bihar Governor R S Gavai described Mr Sinha as a great leader, able administrator and social worker.
''He had actively participated in freedom struggle and left an indelible mark on the state as well as the nation,'' the Governor observed.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar described his death as 'a great loss to the nation'. ''He was one of the few leaders of pre-independence era whose valuable guidance had always helped me.
Translating his dreams into realities would be a true tribute to the departed soul,'' he added.
Railway Minister and RJD president Lalu Prasad described Mr Sinha as a leader who always stood for mitigating the sufferings of the toiling masses. ''In his death, a great void has been created which would be difficult to fill,'' he added.
Former chief minister and leader of the opposition in the state assembly Rabri Devi termed the death an 'irreparable loss' to the nation.
BJP leader and former union minister Dr C P Thakur, Bihar water resources minister Ramashreya Prasad Singh, former ministers Shambu Sharan Thakur and Shyam Rajak were among those who condoled Mr Sinha's death.
Jharkhand Governor Sayed Sibte Razi in his condolence message said the contribution of Mr Sinha in the freedom struggle was memorable and described his death as a great loss to the nation.
Chief Minister Arjun Munda said the demise had created a political vacuum, which would be difficult to fill.
RJD leader Girinath Singh, senior Congress leader P N Singh, J P Choudhary, Roushan Lal Bhatia and party's state general secretary Shailesh Kumar Sinha were among those, who condoled Mr Sinha's death.Sinha died after a protracted illness at his residence here today.
