1000 attend Peace rally to condemn Israeli attack
Kolkata, Aug 06: Protesting against the loss of hundreds of innocent lives in Lebanon in Israeli bombing, thousabnds of Kolkatans today took out a unique two km long peace procession.
Demanding immediate cesession of hostility both by the Israeli forces and Hizbul militants, the processionsts led by Left Front Chairman Biman Bose and CPI-M Mps Mohammasd Salim and Sudhangshu Sil and many others also blamed the USA for deliberately remaining a muke spectator in the bloody war games, claiminig more than 1,000 lives so far.
Shouting anti-Israeli and anti-USA slogans and holding them responsible for the deaths of innocent civilians, the processionists urged the government of India as well as the United Nations to raise their voices against Israeli war efforts in various fora.
Only such efforts would force the Israeli forces to stop unabated bombing on civilian tragets, they felt.
Also criticising the role of the Hizbul militanrs for unnecessarily dragging Lebanon into a virtual war with Israel, the processionists also urged them to desist from attacking Israeli instalations.
After
travesring
the
main
thorougfares,
the
procession
later
convereged
into
a
rally
near
the
American
Centre
here
where
several
other
people
including
Imam
of
Nakhoda
Mosque
addressed
the
gathering.
