17 killed, 13 missing in Nepal landslide

Kathmandu, July 15 (UNI) At least 17 people were killed and 13 others went missing in a massive landslide which swept several houses in a Nepal village last night, sources today said.

Nepane village in Kaski district, 200 km west of Kathmandu was buried due to heavy rain, local chief district officer Badri Nath Ghimire said.

At least 17 bodies have been recovered so far and 13 others, including two foreigners, are still missing. The identity of the missing foreigners is not yet known, he said.

A rescue team of police including Mr Ghimire and Pokhara unit of the Red Cross have been engaged in rescue operation.

The damage caused due the landslide was huge, he said.

Landslides and flood cause heavy loss of life and property in the Himalayan nation during the rainy season.
