Andhra to see tourism investment of Rs 1000 cr

New Delhi, July 13 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh expects investment in the tourism sector to increase to Rs 1,000 crore by stressing on adventure and eco-tourism focusing on Kolleru in West Godavari.

''Our government has developed wellness tourism, village tourism, IT tourism but this year we are focussing on adventure and eco-tourism in the new tourism policy due within a month. This will increase the investment in the tourism sector in the state to Rs 1,000 crore,'' said Tourism Minister J Geeta Reddy.

The investment in this sector for the state has been Rs 797.52 crore.

APInvest CEO C S Rao said several types of tourism have been developed in the state and this variety was adding to investor confidence.

He said that they were planning a Southern Spleandour Tourist train which would start from Andhra Pradesh and after a tour of entire South India terminate back in the state. He highlighted the cruises that were in existence and plans to develop more of them. He also talked about health tourism and wellness tourism.

Andhra Pradesh Tourism Secretary Chitra Ramchandran elaborated on the tourism that was developing in the state with the IT industry.

''Development of IT was bringing in high income group people from different parts of India as well as from foreign countries.

These people nurture a will and have the financial capability to explore the state apart from their IT ambitions,'' she said.

The Minister for Tourism, also stressed on rural tourism for employment generation.
