Kolkata, Jul 06: The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), a premier institution designed on the lines of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, will be opened in the city next month.
Sources said the institute would be run by the Centre while the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development(MHRD) have finalised the curriculam.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is likely to lay the foundation stone of this institute early next month.
The IISER campus would come up in the outskirts of the city in Haringhata on a 500 acres of land, provided by the state government to the MHRD.
The institute would admit 70 students and the candidates would be selected from the IIT-JEE merit list, sources said.
It said that the students would be admitted for a five year intergrated MSc course.
Similar IISER campus would also be opened in Pune.
