Kanpur, June 25 (UNI) Terming the Centre as anti-farmer and anti-people, Uttar Pradesh Public Works Department Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav today said by importing wheat from abroad, the UPA government has tarnished the image of the country.

Mr Yadav, who was here to participate in a programme, told newsmen that India was producing sufficient foodgrains to feed people but due to wrong policies the input costs of fertilizer, chemicals, diesel and seeds had gone up substantially and the production of foodgrains was coming down each year.

On the other hand, the government instead of paying same amount to the farmers, it was importing huge stocks of wheat from foreign countries to meet the shortfall. ''It was investing its foreign reserves but at the same time was denying the reasonable price to own farmers,'' he said.

Terming the Manmohan Singh government as pro-capitalist, he said if this government remained in the power, the country would be fully depending on foodgrains from abroad.

Rejecting the criticism from opposition parties on the payment of unemployment allowance and 'Kanya Dhan', he said that Mulayam Singh government was trying to implement its manifesto one by one and it has nothing to do with the coming assembly elections. ''These were in our manifesto and are being implemented,'' he asserted.

On the formation of Jana Morcha and People's Demoratic Front (PDF), he said Mr VP Singh and Mr Raj Babbar have lost their future in Uttar Pradesh. The developmental works initiated by the Samajavadi Party government would certainly help the party to return to the power, he added.
