Viswanathan New Secretary, Meena Commission Vice Chairman
New Delhi, Mar 31 (UNI) Legislative Department Secretary T K Viswanathan today took over as Union Law Secretary, succeeding R L Meena who retired this afternoon and was appointed Vice Chairman of the Law Commission of India, the Law and Justice Ministry said.
Dr K N Chaturvedi, Law Commission Member-Secretary, succeeded Viswanathan as Secretary, Legislative Department. Dr Chaturvedi was succeeded by Dr D P Sharma, hitherto Additional Secretary in the Ministry.
The Ministry statement said Viswanathan ''has had a distinguished career as an advocate and academic. A scholar of law, he is well-versed in jurisprudence, international law and cyber law. An expert in legislative drafting, he has served the Ministry'' in various capacities since 1988.
Meena began his career as an advocate and ''worked in different capacities in the Rajasthan Judicial Service, Indian Police Service and the Indian Legal Service,'' the statement said. He served in the ILS for about 26 years and was Law Secretary for 10 years, it said.
Dr Chaturvedi ''has varied experience in legal matters''and has been ''associated with the Ministry'' in different capacities since 1988, the Ministry said.
