Stop sand mining at Shimsha river bed, HC tells K'taka Govt
Bangalore, Mar 16 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today directed the State Government and the Mining and Geology department to ensure that sand mining was not carried out in the river bed of Shimsha.
Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Mr Justice V G Sabahit gave the direction while admitting a writ petition filed by one Ohkkaswamy and other residents of Mandya district.
The petitioners contended that large scale sand mining was being carried out by those without licenses from the river bed of Shimsha near Maragondanahalli and Heggodu villages, thus causing huge loss to the Government and environmental problems. The authorities had not taken any action in this regard, they submitted.
